A lightweight, soft and beautifully lustrous natural fibre
Mohair is a natural fibre obtained from the Angora goat, known for its lightness, beautiful lustre and soft feel. The finest fibres obtained from young Angora goats are known as Kid Mohair or Super Kid Mohair.
The yarn used in Nakoa’s mohair knits contains 50% Super Kid Mohair, 32% polyamide and 18% mulesing-free merino wool. This blend makes the knit lightweight and airy while giving it a soft and luxurious feel.
Mohair fibre is more elastic than wool and has good resistance to tension and abrasion. It is also less prone to felting than wool and, thanks to its elasticity, recovers its shape well.

How to care for mohair
Mohair knits do not need to be washed frequently. Air your knit between wears and only wash it when it really needs it. Regular, gentle brushing helps keep your mohair knit looking neat and removes dust and loose fibres from the surface.
A new mohair knit may shed some loose fibres at first. This is natural, and shedding usually decreases with wear. Gently brushing the knit with a soft clothes brush helps remove excess loose fibres.
Water washing is generally not recommended for mohair, so always follow the care instructions for the individual product. If washing is permitted according to the care instructions, handle the knit very gently and avoid rubbing or twisting it.
After washing, gently remove excess water using a towel and dry the knit flat and reshaped. Avoid direct sunlight.
Wool care at a glance
1. Air it
Wool garments benefit from being aired between wears. This allows the natural elasticity of the fibres to recover and keeps the garment fresh without unnecessary washing. Slightly humid outdoor air is ideal for airing wool.
Hang your mohair knit loosely to air, but avoid hanging it while wet to prevent it from stretching.
2. Brush gently
The fluffy surface of mohair requires extra care. Use a soft clothes brush and gently brush the knit in the direction of the fibres.
Brushing removes dust, dirt and loose fibres and can help reduce shedding in a new mohair knit.
We do not recommend using a fabric shaver on mohair, as it can damage the fluffy surface and cut the fibres. A soft clothes brush is a gentler option for mohair.
3. Treat stains promptly
Treat stains as soon as possible. Gently blot liquid stains with a clean paper towel or cloth and avoid rubbing.
If needed, use only cleaning products suitable for wool and treat the stain gently.
4. Wash only when necessary
Thanks to mohair’s natural properties, it does not need to be washed often. In most cases, airing and gentle brushing are enough to keep your knit fresh.
Always follow the care instructions for the individual product. If water washing is permitted, wash the knit gently and avoid vigorous rubbing, twisting or unnecessary soaking.
5. Dry and store correctly
After washing, gently remove excess water using a towel and dry the knit flat. While damp, carefully reshape it to its original shape.
Store your mohair knit folded, especially if it is a heavier knit. This helps it retain its shape and prevents stretching on a hanger.
